SSU detains another three enemy agents who adjusted russian strikes on Kyiv

In Kyiv, the SSU Counterintelligence has neutralized another agent group of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). Three enemy accomplices, one of whom is a russian citizen, have been detained as a result of the operation.

Their main task was to adjust russia’s air strikes on the capital of Ukraine.

The targets were defense plants and depots with weapons and ammunition of the Defense Forces.

According to the investigation, the agents acted separately but were communicating with the same handler – a GRU serviceman, whose identity has been identified by the Security Service.

The russian spy was living in Ukraine in a ‘standby mode’ and after the onset of the full-scale war was activated by the russian military intelligence.

To adjust enemy attacks, the man set up an observation post on the roof of a Kyiv high-rise building.

To have access to the ‘observation deck’, the agent used his friendly relations with a representative of one of the local homeowner associations who had keys to all technical premises.

The other two perpetrators are current and former employees of Ukrainian defense companies. One of them collected information on the consequences of enemy missile hits, the number of employees at factories, repair bases, etc. The other was eliciting information on locations of potential targets from his former colleagues.

The SSU Counterintelligence has documented the traitors’ crimes and detained them. Computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of communication with the aggressor’s intelligence service were seized during searches.

The SSU also seized a quadcopter, which one of the agents planned to use to spy on defense facilities from the air.

SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion of crimes under Articles of the CCU, according to actions each of them carried out:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 114-2.3 (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement or location of the AFU, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.1, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

Two suspects are in custody without bail. The court is to decide on a measure of restraint for the third perpetrator.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
