SSU detains ‘overseer’ of Kryvyi Rih, who terrorized local population for almost 10 years

The SSU is systemically fighting against organized crime that threatens state security amidst the ongoing war.

As a result of a special operation in Dnipropetrovsk region, the SSU detained one of the local crime bosses, who for almost 10 years tried to keep population in fear.

The offender is a repeatedly convicted criminal authority - the so-called ‘overseer’ for Kryvyi Rih.

The individual is involved in numerous cases of imposing a ‘tribute’ on small and medium-sized businesses.

To do this, he took part in resolving artificial ‘conflicts’ created for local entrepreneurs by criminal groups under his control.

For resolving the ‘dispute’, the criminal received his share of the total amount of extorted money.

If victims refused to pay the ‘debts’, the gang members threatened them and their relatives with violence, murder and destruction of property.

The offender was also in constant contact with russian criminal environment, including ‘thieves in law’.

He regularly coordinated his unlawful activities with them and helped to fill the so-called ‘common fund’.

All this had a negative impact on the situation in Kryvyi Rih and the region.

The SSU documented all the stages of the suspect’s criminal activity and detained him on his attempt to extort money for solving ‘problems’ with businesses.

The detainee has been notified of suspicion under the Article 255-1.2 of the CCU (establishing or spreading criminal influence).

Court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint.

The ‘overseer’ is facing up to 15 years in prison.

The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
