SSU detains Ukrainian railways employee who spied in hottest frontline area

The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended another FSB agent who operated near the frontline in Donetsk region – an employee of a regional unit of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian railways).

On the enemy instructions, the perpetrator was spying after the Defence Forces on Pokrovsk direction, the hottest area of the frontline.

The aggressor was interested in the coordinates of Ukrainian strongholds and firing positions.

Through their asset, the occupiers hoped to get the geolocations of key bridges used by the AFU on the eastern front.

The invaders intended to use the data to prepare new combat operations to break through to the city.

The agent moved around the area, trying to collect intelligence. He also tried to elicit information from his colleagues, who would unwittingly reveal something.

He then prepared a report: a text description and potential targets put on electronic maps.

The SSU documented the traitor’s criminal actions and detained him. His mobile phone, which he used to communicate with the FSB, was seized.

The investigation established that he is a resident of Pokrovsk district. In spring this year, he was remotely recruited by the russian service. The man was ‘noticed’ by the enemy as he supported pro-kremlin Telegram channels and posted anti-Ukrainian comments.

SSU investigators have now served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law). The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
