SSU detains top official of tank plant on corruption charges

The SSU detained a former top official of the SE Kyiv Armored Plant. His corrupt activity, while in office in 2014, caused state losses worth UAH 12 m (USD 450,119). In order to avoid punishment, the offender fled to the separatist-held areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

According to findings, he organized misappropriation of the funds allocated for the army equipment modernization.

For that purpose, he registered several bogus companies in different regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv and Kyiv region. Under fictitious contracts, the offender transferred budget funds to accounts of the said companies. Payments were made at inflated rates or for uncompleted work. The scam was used to convert the funds into cash for further embezzlement.

According to preliminary estimates, the six-month fraud caused state losses worth UAH 12 m (USD 450,119).

SSU officers established the offender’ whereabouts and detained him at the Stanytsia Luhanska checkpoint.

The former official received a suspicion notice of misappropriation and official forgery.

He was escorted to the Darnytsia District Court to choose a type of detention for him.

Investigative actions are underway to identify other involved individuals.

The operation was carried out by officers of the SSU Main Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Military and Defense Sphere of the Central Region.
