Dnipro: SSU detains FSB agent posing as military to spy on Ukraine’s Armed Forces (video)
As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Dnipro, the SSU Counterintelligence detained an FSB agent. The spy was collecting intelligence on the movement of Ukrainian troops involved in the counteroffensive on the eastern front.
To disguise his activities, he dressed in Ukrainian military uniform before going out for reconnaissance.
The russian asset was focused on routes of railway trains carrying military equipment, weapons and ammunition for the Defence Forces.
He also tried to identify Ukrainian air defence positions in the area around Dnipro.
To gather intelligence, the enemy informant regularly drove in the city, photographing the targets.
He then transmitted the data to his FSB handler via a messenger app as text messages and media files.
For each completed assignment, the agent received a monetary reward from the russian service. To conceal financial transactions, he received the money to a bank card through cryptocurrency operations.
The occupiers needed the intelligence to plan combat operations and sabotage aimed at slowing down Ukraine’s counteroffensive near Vuhledar and Novosilka.
The SSU detained the russian asset when he was conducting reconnaissance near a strategic facility in Dnipro.
During the searches, the SSU found a mobile phone with evidence of communication with the aggressor, as well as ammunition for automatic weapons.
SSU investigators have served the detained individual a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
His criminal actions may be additionally qualified in the future under Article 263 of the CCU (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk Region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
