SSU detains two Kyiv propagandists who worked for russia and daily spun up to 70 fakes on war in Ukraine

In Kyiv, the SSU’s cyber units detained two enemy accomplices who worked for Alexander Zenin, russian citizen, editor-in-chief of the pro-kremlin portal Vsya Tver [All Tver].

On his instructions, the two women were daily spreading up to 70 fake news on the war in Ukraine in the Ukrainian segment of popular social media and Telegram channels.

Primarily, the propagandists massively disseminated disinformation on the course of warfare at the front and tried to discredit Ukrainian Defence Forces.

To do this, they created and independently administered a network of pro-russian Telegram channels and Facebook communities, which reached an audience of over 10,000 users.

The perpetrators received material for the destructive content as ‘instructions’ in electronic form.

For successfully completed assignments, Zenin transferred up to UAH 10,000 (USD 265) to his ‘subordinates’.

The russian editor coordinated this activity with russian intelligence services and aimed to use these posts and publications to spread panic among Ukrainians.

According to the investigation, the collaborators were two unemployed Kyiv residents who on freelance exchanges were looking for a job as a copywriter.

This is how Zenin came across them and in return for monthly ‘fees’ recruited to work against Ukraine.

The SSU-initiated linguistic examination confirmed the unlawfulness of the suspects’ actions.

During the searches of their homes, the SSU seized computer equipment, used to administer the Internet resources in question.

The SSU also found an electronic mail archive with evidence of communication with the enemy propagandist.

SSU investigators have notified both women of suspicion under Article 111-1.6 of the CCU (collaboration).

The investigation is ongoing. The offenders are facing up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
