The SSU Counterintelligence has detained yet another enemy spotter in Lviv. The perpetrator was tracking coordinates that the enemy could have used for a new series of attacks on railway facilities, government bodies and military installations.

The investigation revealed that russia’s tasks were carried out by an unemployed man from the Dnipropetrovsk region whom they had recruited.

The traitor was working for two russian handlers simultaneously. On the instructions of one of them, he was to gather intelligence to prepare strikes against railway infrastructure and administrative buildings of state and military institutions in the Lviv and Kharkiv regions.

To spy in the western region, he travelled to Lviv, where he filmed the external perimeters of potential ‘targets’ on his phone, marked their geolocations on Google Maps and ‘reported’ back to the russian intelligence.

On the instructions of another handler, the agent purchased a spray can of black paint to paint provocative graffiti on the walls of buildings in Lviv.

In these inscriptions, the asset was to include a reference to a specially created chatbot, which the russian intelligence uses to recruit people with the promise of ‘easy’ money.

The SSU documented the suspect’s offences and caught him as he was once again attempting to photograph Ukrainian sites.

During the searches, a mobile phone containing evidence of intelligence gathering and contacts with the enemy was seized from the detainee.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
