SSU detains FSB agent who collected intelligence on foreign weapons and ammunition depots in Mykolaiv oblast

As a result of a special operation in Mykolaiv region, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed another russian agent.

The offender is local instructor on tactical training at one of the NGOs.

Under the pretext of training Ukrainian defenders, he collected intelligence on deployment of the Defence Forces units in the southern region.

The russian special service instructed the agent to identify locations of foreign weapons and ammunition depots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

To gather intelligence, the traitor used an active Ukrainian serviceman without his knowledge and passed the information to the FSB.

Occupiers needed the data to carry out targeted missile strikes on military facilities in the area.

However, the SSU Counterintelligence worked proactively: the enemy agent was apprehended and the handover of defence information to the aggressor was averted.

According to the investigation, the man contacted the FSB on his own initiative and offered assistance in the war against Ukraine.

Anonymous messenger apps were used for communication.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found:

  • a mobile phone with evidence of communication with the aggressor;
  • weapons and ammunition.

The seized items have been sent for examination.

SSU investigators notified the detained individual of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).

The court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Counterintelligence Department and the SSU Mykolaiv Office carried out the operation and investigation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
