SSU detains enemy agent preparing for extraction after adjusting air strikes on Mykolaiv
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another informant of the GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces), who gathered intelligence on positions and routes of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Mykolaiv oblast.
Primarily, the spy tried to identify possible locations of the AFU’s air defence missile systems.
For this, the enemy asset received UAH 10,000 in advance to his bank card from the GRU handlers.
The next payments were to be transferred as he provided new coordinates of locations of Ukrainian troops.
The aggressor needed the intelligence to adjust and prepare strikes on the region using missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
After completing all the assignments, the occupiers promised to extract their accomplice to the left-bank part of Kherson region.
However, the SSU thwarted these plans – the agent was apprehended on his attempt to pass intelligence to the invaders.
According to the investigation, the detained individual is a local resident, recruited by the russian military intelligence through his relatives. They live in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson oblast and have been cooperating with the GRU.
The relatives gave the GRU handler’s contact details and ‘passwords’ to the traitor, and he set up communication with the occupiers.
During the search, the SSU seized the mobile phone that the suspect used to pass information to the aggressor.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Mykolaiv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region.
