SSU detains russian agent in Odesa who was ‘in touch’ with PMC Wagner staff
As a result of counter-sabotage measures in the south of Ukraine, the SSU detained another agent of russian special services.
Electronic maps with targets for enemy air strikes on Ukrainian Black Sea coast were found on his phone.
The agent has been in contact with the staff of the russian private military company Wagner and moscow OMON (russian guard’s special purpose unit, actively involved in the war against Ukraine).
The investigation established that the enemy accomplice had collected intelligence on the AFU combat positions in Odesa.
Primarily, the agent was interested in locations and camouflage of Ukrainian coastal defence units.
The individual also tried to identify the number of personnel, weapons and military equipment involved in protection of the coastal zone near Odesa.
The aggressor needed this intelligence to plan, prepare and carry out targeted missile strikes on the city.
However, occupiers’ plans were derailed. The SSU timely exposed the agent, documented his criminal activity and detained the suspect on his attempt to provide classified information to russians.
According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident, recruited by russian special services after the full-scale invasion had begun.
He came to the occupiers’ attention due to activity in social networks, where he called to support armed aggression against Ukraine and justified ruscists’ war crimes.
To collect intelligence, the agent personally went to various locations, covertly observed Ukrainian facilities and photographed them.
The obtained data were sent to the enemy as marks on electronic maps with detailed descriptions of surrounding areas.
Prearranged anonymous Telegram channels and messenger apps were used for communication.
During the search at the suspect’s home, the law enforcement found the computer equipment used by the agent to assist the enemy.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under the Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law). Court chose custody as a measure of restraint.
The SSU Odesa Office carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
