SSU detains enemy informant who spied on air defence systems in Kirovohrad oblast and wanted to become PMC ‘Wagner’ mercenary
The SSU’s cyber units have uncovered another enemy informant scouting locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kirovohrad region.
His priority ‘targets’ were Ukrainian air defence systems and arms and ammunition depots.
He sent the data to several russian Telegram channels run by russian intelligence services to gather information on Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, the individual in question wanted to join the militants of the PMC Wagner and fight against Ukraine.
The SSU worked proactively: the enemy accomplice was uncovered, his criminal actions - documented.
Due to the SSU’s prompt response, the aggressor’s plans were disrupted and the suspect was apprehended.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was an ideological supporter of ruscism. This year, on his own initiative, he began to ‘leak’ information on Ukraine’s Defence Forces to the enemy Internet resources.
To collect intelligence, the man walked to the target areas and secretly recorded military facilities.
To hide his illegal activities, the spy constantly changed SIM cards in his mobile phone.
During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU seized the communication device with evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, transfer of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU).
The suspect is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
