SSU detains enemy artillery observer: due to his information occupiers shelled Ukrainian positions in south-east

The SSU detained a native of Zaporizhzhia region, who had been recruited by the FSB through a closed pro-russian group in one of the messenger apps.

The individual was addicted to gambling and had serious financial problems, so he easily agreed to the offer to ‘make some extra money’.

Russian special services were particularly interested in intelligence on positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, location of critical infrastructure facilities and military units there.

The informant wanted to get the money as soon as possible, so he actively interacted with the ‘customer’: after an airstrike on one of the bridges in Zaporizhzhia region, he personally checked the accuracy of the hit and gave the enemy the coordinates for a second strike.

In another case, the traitor gave the enemy information on location of advanced positions of Ukrainian defenders in Dnipropetrovsk region. Using this information, the enemy carried out massive artillery shelling.

The FSB representative planned to reinforce the recruitment of the agent when handing over money to him. Therefore, he scheduled a meeting in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson region. The traitor expected to receive UAH 20,000 (USD 550) for his ‘services’.

The SSU detained the suspect when he attempted to move to the territory not controlled by Ukraine.

The agent has been notified of suspicion under Article 111.2 (treason) of the CCU. The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint.

The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region carried out the operation together with Territorial Defence and the National Police under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
