SSU detains enemy informant spying on Ukrainian Marines in Mykolaiv region

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another informant of russian intelligence services – a woman reconnoitering locations of the Defence Forces in Mykolaiv oblast.

One of the agent’s main tasks was to identify possible geolocations of Ukrainian Marines’ command and combat units and pass their coordinates to the invaders.

To collect intelligence, she walked in the area and covertly recorded her ‘targets’.

She also tried to elicit the ‘necessary’ information from acquaintances, hoping they would unwittingly provide some.

The enemy informant sent the data to the occupiers via an anonymous chat in a messenger app.

She sent her handler electronic maps with marked sites and data on the approximate number of Ukrainian military personnel and equipment.

The SSU identified the spy at the initial phase of her sabotage activities. All stages of the suspect’s criminal actions were documented, and the woman was apprehended on her attempt to carry out a new intelligence assignment.

The AFU Command was timely informed, and a Ukrainian unit changed its temporary base.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a local resident and an ideological supporter of ruscism. When russia started its full-scale invasion, she published posts on social media in support of the occupiers and seizure of part of Ukraine’s territory.

This brought her to the attention of russian intelligence, which then recruited her remotely.

During the search, the SSU seized a mobile phone used by the agent in her reconnaissance and sabotage activities.

SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement or deployment of the AFU).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was conducted by the SSU Mykolaiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
