SSU completes investigation into grenades explosion during village council meeting in Zakarpattia region
The SSU has completed its investigation and submitted an indictment to the court against the member of a village council in Zakarpattia region who committed a terrorist attack in the government building. The official faces life imprisonment.
On 15 December 2023, he detonated three RGD-5 and F-1 fragmentation grenades in the session hall of Keretsky village council.
As a result of the explosions, 26 citizens, including the perpetrator, sustained injuries of varying severity. Two of the wounded later died.
According to the investigation, on that day the council member was trying to influence the community leadership’s decisions on personnel and budgetary issues.
Having failed to achieve the ‘desired’ result, he briefly left the meeting room to prepare the grenades for the attack.
Upon returning, the man took them out of his jacket pockets and threw them one by one on the floor of the hall, where almost all the village council was present.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators submitted to the court an indictment charging the bomber under two Articles of the CCU:
- 258.3 (terrorist act that caused death);
- 263.1 (carrying, storage, acquisition of explosive devices without a permit).
The accused is in custody. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zakarpattia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
