SSU foils two attempts of russian intelligence services to reconnoiter defences at South Ukraine NPP

The SSU detained another russian informant who collected intelligence on the defence of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant. This is the second exposed agent of russian intelligence agencies who targeted this strategic facility in 2023.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a resident of Yuzhnoukrainsk, whom the russian special service recruited in May this year.

He came to the enemy’s attention because of his pro-kremlin posts on one of russian Telegram channels.

The spy collected and passed to the enemy information on locations and strength of Defence Forces units guarding the South Ukrainian NPP.

The aggressor was interested in precise coordinates of military units that protect the NPP and the satellite town of Yuzhnoukrainsk.

The occupiers needed this intelligence to prepare targeted missile strikes.

The enemy asset was paid money for the assignments performed. According to preliminary estimates, the agent received a total of UAH 9,000 (USD 240).

The SSU detained the suspect on his attempt to transmit coordinates and photos of a military facility. The investigators seized a mobile phone with evidence of the crime.

Based on the collected evidence, the SSU notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, transfer of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU or other lawful military formations).

The court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Office in Mykolaiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
