SSU dismantles FSB intelligence network that guided russian Smerch and Uragan MRLs strikes on Kharkiv

As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Kharkiv, the SSU neutralized an agent network of russia’s FSB. The enemy group included three locals who collected intelligence on locations and movements of the Defence Forces in the region.

The spies tried to identify directions of redeployment of Ukrainian troops involved in the counteroffensive on the eastern front.

They were also interested in information on routes of movement and temporary storage points for foreign weapons and ammunition of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

Telegram messenger was used for communication with the FSB.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare and launch attacks on Kharkiv using russian Smerch and Uragan multiple rocket launchers.

The SSU detained the suspects when they were conducting reconnaissance for the enemy.

According to the investigation, the traitors were recruited by an FSB officer in the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion. One of the assets was a former lecturer at a local military educational institution.

During the searches, the SSU found mobile phones and computer equipment with evidence of the crime.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU). The court has chosen custody without bail as a measure of restraint for all the suspects, who are now facing life imprisonment.

The SSU Office in Kharkiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
