SSU dismantles FSB intelligence network that spied on ‘decision-making centres’ in Ukraine’s three regions
As a result of a large-scale special operation in several regions of Ukraine, the SSU detained three members of the FSB’s agent network and identified their russian handler.
On the FSB’s instructions, the enemy informants were spying on so-called ‘decision-making centres’, collecting intelligence on locations, weapons and personnel of the Defence Forces in central and southern Ukraine.
For each completed assignment, the aggressor paid up to USD 550 to the agents’ bank cards, the amount depending on the urgency and quality of ‘work’.
Messenger apps were used for communication with the russian special service.
In Vinnytsia oblast:
The SSU detained a local who was trying to determine coordinates of the AFU Air Force Command Staff and the National Guard units.
To do this, the enemy agent took photos and videos of Ukrainian facilities and surrounding areas from the shop windows and nearby buildings.
In Dnipropetrovsk oblast:
An FSB agent with the call sign ‘Thunder’ was apprehended. The spy drew schemes of defensive lines in Kryvyi Rih and identified depots with military equipment and ammunition in the city.
To gather intelligence, he acted under a cover of ‘an unemployed person’, from time to time taking menial jobs near or on the territory of critical facilities.
One of his tasks was to obtain evacuation plans and maps of local defence units’ buildings, including the SSU.
In Odesa:
The SSU detained a member of the russian intelligence network who was looking for passwords to pass checkpoints and drive in the city during curfew.
To obtain this information, he tried to use his acquaintances in the Ukrainian military and law enforcement.
The spy was also instructed to determine GPS coordinates of military facilities near Odesa. To do this, he drove to the target areas and put marks on electronic maps.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the detained enemy agents of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).
The suspects are in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region conducted the operation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
