SSU and SBI complete investigation of ‘first episode’ of Medvedchuk’s case: file sent to court (video)
These proceedings cover the period from 2015 to 2020, and the suspects are MPs Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak.
The case pertains to:
unlawful hand-over of information on a secret unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to russian special services;
development of an anti-Ukrainian project Promin;
inflicting damage to Ukraine’s economic security by assisting russia in illegal oil and gas production in Prykerch area.
Responsibility for these criminal offenses is stipulated by Article 28.2, Article 111.1; Article 28.2 , Article 15.3, Article 438.1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - committing high treason and attempt to plunder national resources in the temporarily occupied territory of the Crimea.
These crimes are punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years.
Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Viktor Medvedchuk was handed a copy of indictment, which will be sent to court as soon as possible. The file of the proceedings is as big as 80 volumes.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a court’s verdict.
Following an investigation by the SSU, in May 2021 people’s deputies Medvedchuk and Kozak were notified of suspicion within these proceedings.
