In the course of counter-sabotage efforts on the southern direction, the SSU exposed another enemy accomplice. He covertly collected intelligence on location of Ukrainian troops and law enforcement agencies involved in Mykolaiv’s defence.

The agent tried to pass collected information to the enemy through an anonymous Telegram channel created by russian special services for reconnaissance and sabotage activities in the region.

The occupiers were ‘hunting’ for accurate coordinates of the SSU facilities, on which they planned to carry out a targeted missile strike.

But, due to the SSU’s proactive efforts, the russian agent was detained when he attempted to pass the data to russians.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a local, who, after the full-scale invasion started, tried to reach out to the enemy to cooperate in the war against Ukraine.

To do this, the individual actively demonstrated his pro-kremlin views through social networks, calling to support the invaders. He also justified russia’s war crimes of killing civilians and destroying critical infrastructure.

In this way, the man came to the occupiers’ attention and they recruited him to collect intelligence for the russian troops in the occupied areas of the south of Ukraine.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone and computer equipment with evidence of his subversive activities.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of crimes under Articles of the CCU:

• 114-2.3 (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU or other lawful military formations, committed under martial law, with the purpose of passing such information to the aggressor state);
• 436-2.1, 436-2.3 (justifying, recognizing as lawful, denying russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorifying its participants).

Court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The investigation is underway.

The SSU Office in Mykolaiv Region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
