The United States condemns russian aggression and reaffirms its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity

The United States continues its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and condemns russian aggression. This was reaffirmed during a meeting between the SSU Chairman Ivan Bakanov and the newly appointed US Ambassador to Ukraine Briget A. Brink which took place on 10 June 2022 in Kyiv.

‘We highly value unprecedented financial and military assistance that supports our warriors as they defend Ukraine against the russian invaders. The economic front of the fight remains particularly important to us as well – where the US Government imposed the most extensive sanctions yet on russia,’ – emphasized Ivan Bakanov.

SSU Chairman briefed Ambassador Brink on the challenges and threats that the Service has been facing in the course of the full-fledged russian military invasion, and also about its officers that have stood up to defend Ukraine since day one .

‘We keep doing everything possible to free our territories. As we are doing this, Ukraine continues to rely on powerful international support’, – underscored Ivan Bakanov.

Ambassador Brink, in turn, reaffirmed commitment to continue fruitful and persistent cooperation with the Ukrainian Government.

‘We understand that for Ukraine this is a war for survival, and for the United States, the struggle of the Ukrainian people is a defense of the principle that borders cannot be changed by force. As President Biden has said, standing by Ukraine in its hour of need is not just the right thing to do. It is also in our vital national interests to ensure a peaceful and stable Europe and to make it clear that might does not make right. If russia does not pay a heavy price for its actions, it will put the survival of other peaceful democracies at risk, mark the end of the rules-based international order, and open the door to aggression elsewhere,’– said Bridget Brink.
