SSU detains Russian agent who made serious career in Ukraine (video)

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained an agent of Russian special services who has made serious career achievements in Ukraine, working for the former president’s administration and other government agencies. The traitor was able to pass on sensitive information to the enemy.

He confessed that since 2014 he had been working for the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. He was recruited by the enemy’s special services after fleeing to Belgorod from Donetsk.

Russian handlers gave him the pseudonym ‘Regin’ and set the task to obtain classified information of state level.

To do this, they helped him to make a career in Ukrainian authorities. The agent worked in court, later - in one of departments of the Administration of the former president, and after that even served in the Army. Russian special services also paid for his training and travelling abroad.

In addition to secret intelligence, the traitor collected compromising information about officials of various levels and their relatives - this was to become leverage for their further recruitment by Russian intelligence services.

With the beginning of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian supervisors set new tasks for the agent: to collect information about law enforcement agencies, security forces, latest models of weapons and military equipment, etc.

During the special operation, officers of Kharkiv SSU Office intercepted the agent’s communication, established his whereabouts and arrested the traitor in Donetsk region.

During the interrogation, the agent spoke in detail about the instructions he received from the enemy and provided information about targets Russians are interested in, as well as personal data of known to him members of Russian agent network in Ukraine.

The investigation is ongoing to establish the whole chain of traitors and collaborators working for the enemy.

The detainee is facing life imprisonment.

Recently, Russia has been activating its deeply embedded agents to use them in the war with Ukraine. However, the SSU is effectively counteracting to this. Only last week, several of such traitors were exposed and detained.
