SSU’s unique special operation to destroy russian control point in Polissia contributed to liberation of Kyiv region – Vasyl Maliuk
The SSU has revealed details of a special operation to destroy a russian rear command post in Polissia in March 2022. The unique sabotage operation involving heavy artillery was a significant contribution to the liberation of Kyiv oblast from the occupiers.
The film Enemy’s Lair. Elimination from the documentary series SSU. Special Operations of Victory is devoted to this joint success.
‘It was the first such sabotage operation with the involvement of artillery units. The successful, high-quality, sabotage work of the SSU together with the AFU’s artillery proves that together we are strong. It contributed to the defence of Kyiv region. We repelled the enemy, and they were forced to retreat,’ SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk said.
The command post housed the leadership of russian troops advancing on Kyiv. The occupiers also stored a large amount of equipment, ammunition and fuel nearby. Then, this location also became the SSU’s target.
To hit it, the SSU special purpose unit stealthily delivered artillery to the so-called ‘grey zone’, close to russian positions. The heavy 152-mm cannons were moved in a sabotage raid in close proximity to the enemy.
‘It was a daring operation. Several kilometres away from the enemy, our guys were preparing positions for our artillery,’ the SSU Head remarked.
Due to the successful strike, the invaders’ command post was obliterated. The operation was carried out by the SSU in cooperation with the 44th Artillery Brigade of the Operational Command West of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to Vasyl Maliuk, after this operation, the Special Operations Centre ‘A’ and the SSU 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence, together with the Defence Forces, continued to contribute to the liberation of Kyiv oblast by mining logistical routes, blowing up bridges, destroying russian equipment and occupiers.
The first episode of the series SSU. Special Operations of Victory reveals the details of the SSU’s operations to blow up the Crimean Bridge. The second film shows how the snipers of the SSU’s Alpha team fought for the Road of Life near Bakhmut in the spring of 2023.
