SSU neutralized hundreds of cyberattacks on Ukrainian cogeneration plants and energy companies in 2022 – Illia Vitiuk
During this year, the SSU neutralized hundreds of russian cyberattacks and cyber incidents at Ukrainian energy facilities, about 30 of which could have become supercritical.
The Chief of the SSU Cyber Security Department Illia Vitiuk spoke about this on air of the We-Ukraine TV channel.
‘Missile strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities are very often accompanied by cyberattacks. We expected such a scenario, so none of them was effective,’ Illia Vitiuk informed.
According to the Chief of the SSU Cyber Security Department, since October this year russia has been launching systematic cyberattacks against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Earlier, the enemy attacked electronic systems of our energy facilities too, although not so massively.
‘There were also attempts to turn off power and destroy digital infrastructure of some oblast power companies and combined heat and power plants. Fortunately, we were able to prevent this,’ Illia Vitiuk noted.
He stressed that the SSU cyber units have become much stronger this year. In addition to effectively keeping the cyber defence, they are also attacking the enemy.
