Dozens of Russian Internet agents and cyber groups exposed, 187 individuals included in sanctions lists in 2021

The SSU continues to ensure an integrated response to informational and subversive activities of Russian special services. Since the beginning of the year, over 30 hostile Internet agents have been exposed, 23 of them were convicted for crimes against Ukraine’s state security. The perpetrators used social media to call for seizing power and violating territorial integrity of our country.

The SSU special operations resulted in dismantling of 12 bot farms set up by Russian special services with total capacity over 60,000 accounts.

Following the instructions of their handlers, the enemy agents conducted special information operations to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

Acting upon the SSU recommendations, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions on 187 individuals and legal entities that posed a threat to informational and cybersecurity of our country.

The SSU disrupted subversive activities of over 30 commercial structures set up by the Russian special services to finance informational subversion centers acting against Ukraine, including 3 Russian payment systems and affiliated companies.

Furthermore, the SSU has identified hackers of the notorious Armagedon group. They were employed by the FSB and carried out over 5,000 cyber-attacks against government agencies and critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

In February this year, the SSU dismantled an extensive agent network of the Russian GRU. Following their handlers’ instructions, they used Telegram channels to spread publications aimed at creating panic and social tension in various regions of Ukraine.

 Chernihiv:

An Internet agent who called for altering of Ukraine’s state borders was sentenced to 3 years in prison. To disseminate provocations, he created and administered specialized groups on social networks.

Kirovohrad region:

The SSU operation led to conviction of another enemy agent. The culprit distributed publications via social media calling for violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine. He was also promoting the activities of the so-called ‘L/DNR’ militants.

Sumy region:

A member of informational subversion group was convicted. He called for violent overthrow of constitutional order and seizure of power.

Mariupol:

The SSU disrupted the activities of three Internet agents who were promoting IAFs militants and campaigning for altering of Ukraine’s state borders. They posted their ‘publications’ on social networks banned in Ukraine.

Acting upon the uncovered facts of Russia’s informational aggression, the SSU is taking steps to bring to justice all persons involved in crimes against the state security of Ukraine.
