SBU Statement on Passing of First SBU Head Yevhen Marchuk
August 5, Ukrainian statesman, first SBU Head Yevhen Kyrylovych Marchuk passed away.
COVID-19 exacerbated his diseases and precipitated pulmonary heart failure.
The role of Yevhen Marchuk in the state-building of Ukraine is hard to overestimate. He took an active part in formation of the Security Service of Ukraine as a body responsible for national security. Marchuk headed the government, had the rank of General of the Army of Ukraine, and represented Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group for peaceful settlement of the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
SBU Head Ivan Bakanov, executives and employees of the Service offer their deepest condolences to his family and friends. This is a great loss for Ukraine.
