At SSU’s initiative, sanctions introduced against 200 russian companies trying to take over Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia NPP

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi supported the SSU’s initiative and enacted the decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine to impose economic sanctions against the russian corporation Rosatom and 199 companies that are part of this corporation.

The restrictive measures will be in effect for the next 50 years and will apply to all financial and economic transactions of these entities.

According to the SSU’s investigation, the companies of Rosatom state corporation are involved in the ‘alienation’ of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in favour of the aggressor state.

In particular, the SSU has evidence that employees of Rosatom and related companies:

  • have taken control of technological and management processes at Zaporizhzhia NPP;
  • are facilitating the connection of the nuclear power plant to the russian energy system;
  • are trying to legalize the operation of the NPP in russia by creating fake russian companies: Zaporozhye NPP Operating Organization JSC and Zaporozhye NPP FSUE, which are included in Rosatom’s structure.

In March 2022, russian occupation groupings seized Zaporizhzhia NPP by force.

The SSU systematically documents and exposes russia’s crimes and is acting to hold the culprits to account.

In 2022, following the SSU’s proposal, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi enacted the NSDC’s decision to impose personal economic and other sanctions on the director general of Rosatom, Oleksiy Yevhenovych Likhachev.

Proposals to introduce sanctions were submitted by the SSU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Support of Critical Infrastructure and Countering Terrorism Financing.
