Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent, exposed in January this year while collecting data on the Armed Forces in the Cherkasy region, has been convicted to imprisonment.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was a local university student who had been recruited by russia’s federal security service. He was spotted by the ruscists while seeking ‘easy’ money on Telegram channels.

After the recruitment, the agent was tasked with spying on operational airfields used by Ukrainian forces in central Ukraine.

Specifically, he was to monitor the presence of combat aircraft and helicopters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at these airfields.

To gather intelligence, the agent travelled around the area, photographing the airfield infrastructure from a distance.

Later, the agent travelled to Kyiv to lay low, hoping to evade prosecution.

During a search, a smartphone, which he had used to coordinate his activities with his FSB handler, was seized from the detainee.

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, the accused was found guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU – high treason committed under martial law.

Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to ten years’ imprisonment and confiscated his property.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
