Following SSU’s investigation, russian saboteur who prepared explosions on transport infrastructure in Rivne region sentenced to 10 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court convicted a saboteur of the main directorate of the general staff of russian armed forces (better known as the ‘GRU’) to a prison term.
The traitor was preparing to blow up two key transport infrastructure facilities in Rivne oblast.
In this way, the aggressor hoped to disrupt supply of foreign weapons and ammunition to Ukraine’s defence forces on eastern and southern fronts.
To carry out the enemy’s assignment, the agent conducted reconnaissance around the infrastructure facilities and prepared to plant explosives in the most ‘vulnerable’ sections of both transport routes.
However, the SSU worked proactively and apprehended the suspect as a result of a multi-stage special operation in late February this year.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
SSU investigators established that the offender is a former militant who fought against the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces in eastern Ukraine before the start of russia’s full-scale invasion.
At that time, he was a member of Oplot and Khan terrorist groups and was also an informant of the russian military intelligence.
After 24 February 2022, the enemy accomplice actively participated in military operations against Ukrainian troops on Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions.
Later, he received an assignment from the GRU to covertly arrive in Rivne region to commit sabotage at transport infrastructure facilities.
The aggressor’s asset also collected intelligence on locations of military facilities in the region.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the accused guilty of committing crimes against Ukraine’s state security.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
