Following SSU’s investigation, agents who adjusted strikes on Cherkasy and Lysychansk sentenced to 10 and 12 years in prison

Due to evidence collected by the SSU, two russian agents who collaborated with the aggressor for ideological reasons were sentenced to prison terms.

In Cherkasy, a former employee of executive authorities, a fan of the banned in Ukraine party of shariy, turned out to be the enemy’s informant.

The SSU Counterintelligence established that since the beginning of russia’s large-scale invasion the man had been collecting and passing to russian special services coordinates of:

  • checkpoints;
  • units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, security and law enforcement agencies;
  • administrative buildings of state authorities and judicial institutions.

The agent sent photos with accurate geolocation of facilities by secure communication channels.

The investigators established that the spy planned not only to pass on information to the aggressor, but also requested a whole arsenal of weapons from his handler. According to him, he ‘wanted to be ready to support russian troops when they entered Cherkasy region.’

The SSU detained the traitor in June this year when he was on the enemy’s assignment – taking photos of one of the military facilities in the region.

On the basis of the evidence collected by the SSU, the Zolotoniskyi Town and District Court of Cherkasy Region found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (treason) and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

In Lysychansk, a 27-year-old local woman was recruited by russian occupation forces after the invasion.

During the battles for Lysychansk and Severodonetsk, she informed the enemy on the location and movement of the units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, including the quantity of military equipment.

The agent adjusted the fire of russian artillery on Lysychansk, including on the district where she lived. She sent to her handler photos of damaged buildings and fragments of enemy cluster munitions from the affected sites as well as detailed descriptions of the accuracy of the hit and the extent of the destruction.

The informant also posted data with the results of strikes on Lysychansk in a pro-russian group in Telegram.

In April, the SSU Counterintelligence detained the artillery observer, identified and detained other members of the network.

Following the SSU’s investigation, Petropavlovskyi District Court of Dnipropetrovsk Region found the accused guilty under Article 28.2 and Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (assisting illegal armed or paramilitary formations and armed formations of the aggressor state in hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, by a group of persons upon a prior conspiracy).

The agent was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The court is to make decisions on other members of the intelligence network.

The operation and investigation were carried out by the SSU Offices in Cherkasy, Donetsk and Luhansk regions together with the National Police under the procedural supervision of regional prosecutor’s offices.
