Following SSU investigation, collaborator who broadcast russian TV during Kupiansk’s occupation sentenced to 11 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU and the National Police, another collaborator from Kharkiv region has been convicted to 11 years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the investigation, he collaborated with the enemy during the occupation at the beginning of the full-scale war.
The convict is a former engineer of a radio and television station in Kupiansk district. After the area was seized, he ensured the broadcasting of russian central TV channels in the region, including kremlin’s propaganda mouthpieces first channel, ntv and rossiya-1.
The collaborator clandestinely used the frequencies of Ukrainian digital terrestrial television to broadcast enemy TV channels.
In June 2022, he gave an interview to enemy propagandist Mariana Naumova, who called for the seizure of Ukraine and mass repression of Ukrainians, including children.
During the broadcast, the traitor praised the kremlin regime and expressed hope for the occupation of all of Kharkiv region.
He also took part in the filming of a staged story for the russian television about the supposed ‘provision of humanitarian aid from russia’ to local residents.
The SSU apprehended the supporter of ruscism in his apartment, where he was hiding from prosecution after the liberation of Kupiansk.
Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111-1.6 (collaboration);
- 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The offender has been deprived of the right to hold certain positions for ten years after release.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kupiansk District Prosecutor’s Office.
