Following SSU investigation, enemy mole sentenced to 13 years in prison for helping ruscists shell AFU positions in Kursk region
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, another traitor – serviceman of the Defence Forces who spied for russia – received a prison sentence.
The perpetrator is a 47-year-old conscript who, on orders of russia’s military intelligence (‘the GRU’), adjusted enemy fire on Ukrainian troops in Kursk sector.
The SSU, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained the mole in March this year on the border of Sumy region.
Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced the accused to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the investigation, the aggressor state recruited the agent through a Telegram channel where he posted comments in support of russia’s war against Ukraine.
The man had been initially mobilised into a rear unit and later transferred to a combat brigade, which was performing tasks in Kursk region.
While on the front line, the traitor collected coordinates of Ukraine’s electronic warfare systems and self-propelled artillery installations. The occupiers used the data to prepare strikes.
The SSU Military Counterintelligence uncovered the mole at an early stage of his cooperation with the enemy and caught him while he was compiling an intelligence report for the GRU.
At the scene, a phone with map markings of Ukrainian objects and comments for the russian handler was seized from the mole. Unregistered weapons and ammunition were also found at the suspect’s home.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Articles 111.2 and 263.1 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Sumy Office under the procedural supervision of Sumy Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office.
