Two russian GRU agents who directed strikes on Sloviansk and Kramatorsk sentenced to 15 and 10 years in prison, following SSU investigation
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, two agents of russia’s military intelligence service (the GRU) have been sentenced to prison terms. The SSU exposed them in September 2025 for guiding enemy strikes on Donetsk region.
The investigation established that the two enemy assets operated independently in different frontline areas while reporting to the same handler in russia.
One of them is a Sloviansk resident who, on russia’s instructions, guided russian aerial bombs and rocket artillery strikes against the frontline city.
To conceal his activities, he put on tactical military clothing and posed as a Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman before setting out on his missions.
The second convict is a resident of Kramatorsk who was recruited by the GRU through an acquaintance, a member of the russian armed grouping fighting on the eastern front.
On his instructions, the agent walked the district centre and the surrounding areas to identify the locations of checkpoints and the routes used by mobile air defence groups of Ukraine’s Defence Forces, and relay this information to the enemy.
The SSU Counterintelligence documented the spotters’ criminal activities and detained them at their homes.
During the searches, the investigators seized mobile phones and laptops containing evidence of their cooperation with russia’s GRU.
The court found the perpetrators guilty of offences under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 114-2.3 (unauthorised dissemination of information on the movement, deployment or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
One of the enemy collaborators was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. The other received a 10-year prison sentence in recognition of his cooperation with the investigation.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
