Following SSU investigation, agent couple who spied in Kharkiv region under cover of volunteering sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on evidence collected by the SSU, a couple of agents of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), who operated in Kharkiv region, have been convicted to 15 years in prison and confiscation of property.

The perpetrators are a local unemployed woman and her partner, who adjusted russian missile and bomb strikes on the region. For a cover, the agents posed as volunteers helping stray animals.

To make it more convincing, the traitors set up an improvised shelter in their yard.

To secretly collect coordinates for strikes, they were looking for information for under the guise of trips to find abandoned animals.

They obtained additional data from local residents whom they met during their travels.

The enemy’s targets were backup command posts and checkpoints of the Defense Forces, as well as medical facilities where wounded soldiers were being treated.

The SSU Counterintelligence identified the pair of agents, documented their crimes, and detained them at their home near Kharkiv in February this year.

The occupiers remotely recruited both assets through a fellow villager who has been fighting against Ukrainian troops in the east of our country since 2014.

Following an investigation by the SSU, the panel of judges found both accused guilty under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed by a group acting in collusion, under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
