Following SSU investigation, traitor, who guided russian missiles at Zhytomyr region and planned escape to russia, sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, an agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), who operated in Zhytomyr region, has been convicted to 15 years of imprisonment. The woman adjusted enemy missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator tried to find out the locations of the repair bases for AFU heavy weapons.

The SSU detained the agent in August 2023, when she was preparing to flee to russia. At that time, the GRU planned to extract its accomplice to russia by transit through third countries.

The traitor is a 43-year-old internally displaced person from Donetsk region. After the start of the full-scale war, she first moved to Kyiv and then rented an apartment in Zhytomyr oblast.

She was looking for ‘access’ to the russian military intelligence through the russian social media, leaving messages and offering her services as an informant.

The agent also used her personal page in the banned Odnoklassniki network to glorify the militants of the russian private military company Wagner and justified their crimes.

After remote recruitment, the asset received a code name and instructions for further actions.

She transmitted the information to her russian handler via anonymous messenger chats and e-mail.

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.2 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The investigation was caried out under the procedural supervision of Zhytomyr Region Prosecutor’s Office.
