Following SSU’s investigation, another 10 militants, who took part in capturing Mariupol and Volnovakha, sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court convicted another 10 traitors to 15 years of imprisonment for joining russian occupation groupings and fighting against Ukraine. Among them are snipers and machine gunners who fired at Ukrainian positions on the eastern front.
The militants were taken prisoner by Ukrainian defenders during fierce battles near Bakhmut, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka and Neskuchne village in Donetsk oblast.
According to the investigation, the convicted individuals are residents of eastern Ukraine who, with the onset of russia’s full-scale invasion, voluntarily joined the units of the Southern military district of the aggressor’s armed forces.
They were directly involved in seizing Mariupol and Volnovakha.
Together with mercenaries from the PMC Wagner, the traitors stormed Bakhmut, Klishchiyivka and Novomayorsk in Donetsk region.
The occupiers also involved their accomplices in digging trenches, setting up minefields and checkpoints.
Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1, 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 111-1.7 (collaboration, voluntary participation of a citizen of Ukraine in unlawful armed or paramilitary groups);
- 258-3.1 (creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
- 260.2 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups).
The investigations were conducted by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region and the SSU Office in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
