Following SSU investigation, FSB agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for plotting to blow up railway to derail freight train in Rivne region
An agent of russia’s federal security service has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine. The SSU exposed him in January 2025 while he was planning a sabotage operation against Ukrainian railways in the Rivne region.
The perpetrator attempted to place an improvised explosive device under a track used by freight trains.
The investigation revealed that russian intelligence operatives had planned to detonate the explosive remotely whilst the train was in motion.
The FSB’s task was carried out by a man from the Lviv region who was unemployed and had been recruited by the aggressor state. He had previously been prosecuted for vandalising the burial sites of Ukrainian defenders.
The repeat offender was spotted by the ruscists due to his anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram chats.
After the recruitment, he received step-by-step instructions from the enemy: retrieve the explosives from a cache, travel to the Rivne region, and place them on the local railway tracks.
However, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed the traitor while he was preparing the sabotage and arrested him near the tracks, before he had a chance to plant the bomb.
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
