Following SSU investigation, FSB agent who prepared russian missile attack on Cherkasy region sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another agent of russia’s federal security service, who was spying in Cherkasy oblast, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator was preparing coordinates for a russian missile and drone strike on the locations of the Defense Forces.
Among the enemy’s potential targets were the National Guard units involved in combat missions on the eastern and southern fronts.
Hoping to evade the Ukrainian air defenses, the occupiers additionally instructed their agent to identify the bases of mobile air defense groups.
The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the traitor at an early stage, documented his crimes and detained him in September 2024, when he was conducting additional reconnaissance near a military installation.
A mobile phone was seized from the suspect at the scene, where he was preparing his ‘intelligence report’ for the FSB.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a 45-year-old unemployed man from Cherkasy, recruited by the occupiers through a Telegram channel offering ‘quick money’.
To carry out russia’s tasks, he travelled around the city and its adjacent areas, covertly recording the likely locations of Ukrainian defenders.
The agent also tried to elicit information during everyday conversations with his acquaintances, hopping they would unwittingly reveal some data.
He transferred the collected data to Google maps, which he planned to send to the FSB along with photos of potential targets.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Cherkasy Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
