Based on SSU evidence, FSB agent who prepared explosive caches for terrorist attacks in downtown Kharkiv receives a 15-year prison sentence
Based on evidence gathered by the SSU counterintelligence and investigators, a russian agent who was caught red-handed by the SSU in June 2025 while preparing a series of terrorist attacks in Kharkiv was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As the investigation revealed, the convicted man is a lab technician at a local university who was recruited by the FSB. He came to the attention of the rushists in Telegram chat channels, where he posted anti-Ukrainian comments.
The recruited traitor was given an intelligence assignment to produce three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with remote controls.
The suspect is then supposed to conceal the explosives in caches for subsequent transfer to the perpetrators of the planned terrorist attacks targeting administrative buildings in downtown Kharkiv.
Following instructions from the russian intelligence service, the agent equipped the improvised bombs with metal nuts and nails to increase their destructive power and then equipped them with cell phones for remote detonation.
It was established that, to maintain secrecy, the traitor produced and stored explosives in the residence of his neighbours, who had left town and given him the keys to look after the place.
The perpetrator disguises the IEDs as sports equipment and conceals them in hidden caches, the coordinates of which he transmits to his FSB handler via a messenger.
The SSU officers uncovered the enemy’s plan in advance, systematically documented the agent’s crimes, and detained him while he was setting up a third cache in the yard of a residential complex.
Based on evidence provided by the SSU, the court found the agent guilty under several articles of the CCU:
- Article 111.2 (treason committed under martial law);
- Article 263-1.,2 (repeated unlawful manufacture of an explosive device);
- Article 15.2; Article 27.5; Article 258.2 (aiding and abetting the preparation of a terrorist act);
- Article 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, and explosive substances).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU officers in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
