Following SSU investigation, FSB agent who spied in Kirovohrad region sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another agent of russia’s federal security service, who operated in Kirovohrad region, has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The perpetrator was preparing enemy missile and drone strikes on the region. The aggressor’s main targets were the staffs and reserve command posts of the Defense Forces.

To evade Ukrainian air defenses, the agent tried to identify combat positions of AFU radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems.

The occupiers were also interested in the bases and routes of mobile air defense groups protecting the airspace of the region.

After fulfilling these tasks, the handler promised to extract the asset to russia through third countries and to ensure his employment with the FSB.

The SSU thwarted the enemy plans and detained the agent in July 2023 red-handed when he was photographing the outer perimeter of a military facility.

According to the investigation, the traitor was a resident of the frontline city of Toretsk, Donetsk region, who, on russia’s instructions, moved to the central region of Ukraine as an internally displaced person.

He got a job as a labourer in a military unit to collect intelligence through new contacts.

The spy also walked around the area, taking photos and marking possible locations of the Defense Forces on Google maps.

His mobile phone with evidence of communication with the FSB was seized during searches.

The court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
