Following SSU investigation, FSB agent who carried out arson on Ukrainian railways and prepared bombs for terrorist attacks convicted to 15 years in prison
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an FSB agent, detained in January this year in Cherkasy region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation established that the perpetrator was involved in arson attacks on the local railway and was setting up caches with explosives to prepare for terrorist attacks.
The SSU caught the perpetrator red-handed when he was placing more than 4 kg of explosives in a cache, which were to be picked up later by the executors of the attacks.
The convicted person is a 25-year-old unemployed man from Smila district who was recruited by the occupiers. He came to the attention of russia’s federal security service while looking for easy money on Telegram.
His first assignment as an agent was to set fire to a cable communications cabinet on a railway line. To commit the crime, the arsonist used a flammable mixture, recorded the fire on his phone, and reported to his handler in russia.
The enemy accomplice then received instructions from the FSB on how to make an explosive mixture from improvised materials. After mixing the ingredients, he divided the substance into four packages and hid them under a bridge.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:
- 28.2, 113.2 (sabotage, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy, under martial law);
- 263-1.2 (illegal manufacture of explosives, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 28.2, 263.1 (illegal handling of explosives, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
