Following SSU’s investigation, GRU agent tasked to destroy Ukrainian air defence in Dnipropetrovsk oblast sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court has convicted another russian agent to imprisonment.

The spy was a member of a GRU’s intelligence network (‘the GRU’ is the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces), which the SSU dismantled earlier this year in Dnipro.

As a result of that operation, his accomplices were also detained. They collected intelligence on locations and movements of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in the oblast.

Besides military targets, the informants passed to the aggressor locations of civilian infrastructure and life support facilities, including energy generating enterprises.

The convicted individual is a Dnipro resident, an IT specialist who supported russia’s full-scale aggression.

As a member of the network, the man was responsible for identifying possible combat positions of air defence units in the frontline area.

To do this, the agent conducted visual surveillance and recorded directions and time of Ukrainian air defence system’s response to enemy targets.

He passed the collected data to the GRU through a senior member of his group, the resident. Anonymous messengers were used for communication.

Occupiers used the intelligence received to prepare air strikes on the region using ballistic or cruise missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

Based on the collected evidence, the enemy informant was found guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
