SSU materials help to sentence russian special forces militant who attacked Bakhmut to 15 years in prison

Owing to the SSU evidence base, another russian militant of occupation groups, who fought against the Defense Forces on the eastern front, received a real term of imprisonment.

The malefactor was a member of the Storm special forces of the Southern Military District.

As the all-out invasion launched, the perpetrator was involved into the establishing of russian fortifications and firing positions in close proximity to Ilovaisk railway station.

He also repeatedly took part in the occupiers' attempts to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut.

In May 2023 the offender was captured during one of these battles.

Given the SSU materials, the court sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, the militant was a 41-year-old resident of temporarily occupied Donetsk. The alleged spread the pro-Kremlin views and supported russia's armed aggression.

In December 2022, the malefactor voluntarily joined the russian-controlled "people's militia of the dnr". Then, he was appointed a rifleman of a special unit under the control of occupation forces.

Given the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the offender guilty under two articles of the CCU:

  • Part 2 Art. 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
  • Part 2 Art. 260 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups).

The SSU points out the inevitability of punishment for crimes committed against Ukraine.

The investigation was carried out under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
