Design engineer who attempted to leak Ukroboronprom’s secret developments to FSB sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent, exposed by the SSU in Mykolaiv in October 2024, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The convicted individual was a design engineer at one of Mykolaiv’s defence plants. He attempted to pass classified information concerning secret military developments to the russian federal security service, the FSB.
The investigation established that the FSB recruited him through a former colleague who has lived in russia since the early 2000s.
The russian intelligence was interested in technical documentation relating to the production of advanced gas-turbine engines, which the ruscists intended to obtain for use by their military-industrial complex.
Following instructions from his handler, the agent was supposed to photograph classified documents with his mobile phone and transmit the images to russia via a messaging application.
In addition, the agent collected information about the temporary deployment locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and assessed the technical condition of energy infrastructure that russian forces were preparing to target with missile and drone strikes.
To carry out these tasks, he drove around the outskirts of Mykolaiv in his vehicle, using a smartphone to record the locations of potential targets.
In an effort to conceal his activities, the enemy asset created an anonymous email account and deleted mail after each communication session with his handler.
The SSU Counterintelligence systematically documented the suspect’s activities before detaining him.
During the searches of his home, investigators seized computer equipment and mobile phones containing evidence of his cooperation with the FSB.
Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU – high treason, committed under martial law.
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in the Mykolaiv region under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern Region.
