Following SSU investigation, spotter who guided russian airstrikes at Chernivtsi sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and confiscation of property. The perpetrator was exposed by the Security Service of Ukraine in November 2025 in Chernivtsi. He had been directing russian airstrikes at the city and calling for continued shelling of Ukraine’s western region.
The investigation established that russia’s tasks were carried out by a local resident who was evading mobilisation and working for the ruscists.
The man was spotted by the russian intelligence after posting pro-kremlin comments on Telegram channels. In his posts, he justified russia’s war crimes, including strikes on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
After recruitment, the agent walked around the regional centre to identify and pass on geolocations of facilities that, in his opinion, could be used by Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
He photographed the perimeters of potential ‘targets’ and marked their coordinates on Google Maps.
The asset later transmitted the intelligence via a chatbot created by the occupiers to collect data on Ukrainian troops.
The traitor also spread anti-Ukrainian comments on the banned social network VKontakte. For example, in one such post, he supported russia’s combined attack on Chernivtsi in July 2025.
During searches, the law enforcement team seized pro-kremlin symbols, as well as sketches and a smartphone containing evidence of his sabotage activities in favour of the aggressor state.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 436-2.3 (production and dissemination of materials justifying and recognising as lawful the armed aggression of russia against Ukraine).
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Chernivtsi Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
