Following SSU investigation, GRU ‘mole’ who joined AFU to spy sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, an enemy agent who enrolled to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to spy on our defenders on the eastern front has been convicted to prison.
In late February this year, the SSU detained the traitor as he was trying to escape to unrecognized Transnistria across the border river.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a resident of Dnipropetrovsk region who graduated from moscow state university in the 2000s with a law degree.
While studying in russia, he was recruited by the russian military intelligence service (‘the GRU’).
After graduating from the university, he returned to Ukraine and was on ‘standby’ for a long time.
In 2023, the man was contacted by his russian handler, who ‘activated’ him for reconnaissance and sabotage.
After that, the asset joined one of the AFU brigades and was deployed to Bakhmut area.
Near the frontline, the ‘mole’ collected intelligence on locations and movements of Ukrainian troops.
Communication with the enemy was maintained through a specially created chatbot administered by the GRU.
Realizing the inevitability of punishment, the agent secretly left his unit and tried to flee abroad.
The SSU documented his crimes and detained him at the border in Vinnytsia region.
Based on the evidence, the enemy accomplice was found guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 408.4 (desertion).
Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Vinnytsia Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
