Following SSU’s investigation, FSB’s athlete-agent who ran 50 km daily to spy for russia sentenced to 15 years in jail

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, an agent of russia’s FSB has been convicted to prison for collecting intelligence on deployment and movement of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Khmelnytskyi region.

The perpetrator is a local athletics coach who ran 10 to 50 km almost every day to track locations and routes of Ukrainian troops.

While jogging, the man covertly took photos and videos. To do this, he used his mobile phone, which he fixed on his arm.

The runner’s main task was reconnaissance of locations with the AFU’s heavy weapons and ammunition.

The agent also developed a topographic map for the occupiers, marking Ukrainian checkpoints on the region’s main roads.

The invaders needed the intelligence to plan air strikes on the area and possibly reconnaissance and sabotage operations.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the spy in May 2022 ‘red-handed’ when he was covertly photographing one of the local Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.

The court sentenced the traitor to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The SSU’s investigation established that the 55-year-old sports coach had been recruited remotely by an FSB officer in March 2022.

He came to the aggressor’s attention as a graduate of Leningrad Military School, where he studied in the soviet union, and then served in Taman division in russia until 1992. Later, he retired from military service and moved to Ukraine.

For each assignment fulfilled, the enemy asset received money from the occupiers, transferred to his bank card.

The court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The SSU Office in Khmelnytskyi region carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
