Following SSU investigation, FSB’s double agent, who attempted to infiltrate SSU, convicted to 15 years in prison

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, an agent of russia’s federal security service, detained in October 2021 in Vinnytsia, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. He attempted to infiltrate the SSU’s agent network in order to spy within Ukraine’s security service.

The perpetrator is a 43-year-old resident of the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk oblast, who fought against the Anti-Terrorist Operation forces in eastern Ukraine from 2014 to 2016.

While serving in the ranks of russian armed groupings, the traitor helped the occupiers capture settlements in the region, including the town of Sorokyne.

Subsequently, the militant was recruited by an FSB officer. Some time before the start of the full-scale war, he was deployed to the territory under Ukrainian control.

Upon arrival in Vinnytsia, the agent was instructed to contact Ukrainian security services to supposedly provide up-to-date information about members of the terrorist organisation ‘luhansk people’s republic’.

However, he was actually trying to establish contacts with SSU personnel in order to gather intelligence in russia’s interests.

The SSU Counterintelligence acted pre-emptively and exposed the agent at the initial stage of his infiltration.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.1 (high treason);
  • 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist organisation).

The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in Vinnytsia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
