Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent – whom the SSU exposed in November 2024 for carrying out arson attacks in the Chernihiv and Odesa regions – has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator’s main ‘targets’ included energy infrastructure facilities and government buildings.

The perpetrator turned out to be a resident of the Chernihiv region who was recruited by the russians. Before that, he had travelled to southern Ukraine in search of work.

Upon arriving in the Odesa region, he began searching Telegram channels, trying to find suitable offers. In one of the chat rooms, a russian intelligence officer contacted the man and offered him ‘work’.

Lured by the promise of ‘easy’ money, the traitor set fire to several local transformers. He filmed each fire on his mobile phone to report back to his russian handler.

Subsequently, the agent returned to northern Ukraine, where he was given a new task – to set fire to the administrative building of one of the departments of the Koryukivka City Council.

To do this, the arsonist smashed a window of the building with a brick and threw two ‘Molotov cocktails’ inside, recording the arson on video for the russian intelligence.

The SSU detained the agent ‘red-handed’; a smartphone containing evidence of his carrying out orders from the enemy was seized from him.

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

• 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
• 194.2 (wilful destruction or damage to property by arson).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Chernihiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
