Following SSU investigation, another enemy agent involved in arson attacks on railway equipment in Kyiv sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service, an enemy agent, exposed in March 2025 for setting fire to an Ukrzaliznytsia signal installation in Kyiv, has been convicted to a prison term.

At that time, officers of the SSU Kyiv Office and the National Police apprehended the perpetrator red-handed as he and an accomplice attempted to flee after setting the railway line on fire.

Now, the main perpetrator has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

As the investigation established, the arsonist is a resident of the capital, who was illegally moonlighting as an operator at a fraudulent call center.

He came to the attention of the russian intelligence while looking for extra income on Telegram channels. For the promise of ‘quick money’, he agreed to set fire to facilities of the Kyiv branch of Ukrainian Railways.

Following russia’s instructions, he was to destroy the relay cabinets of the signaling system that regulates train traffic on main lines. In this way, the aggressor hoped to disrupt freight transportation logistics.

To carry out the task, the agent recruited a local unemployed acquaintance.

Together, they purchased a hammer to break open the electrical panel door and, using an incendiary mixture, set the equipment on fire at night.

During the search, the investigators seized smartphones, clothing, and arson tools with evidence of the suspects’ actions on behalf of the aggressor state.

Based on the investigation by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under Articles 28.2 and 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed by a group, by prior conspiracy, under martial law).

The case regarding his accomplice is currently being considered in court.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and the Kyiv region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
