Following SSU investigation, another arsonist who acted on russia’s behalf sentenced to 15 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, an enemy agent who was exposed in July 2025 for carrying out arson attacks in Kyiv has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and confiscation of property.

The investigation revealed that the sabotage attacks were carried out by a local man who was unemployed and had been recruited by the enemy. He came to russia’s attention while searching for ‘easy’ money on Telegram channels.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator initially set fire to a signal box on one of Ukrzaliznytsia railway lines.

The ruscists hoped that this would disrupt freight transport logistics, particularly to the frontline regions of Ukraine.

He also set fire to an off-road vehicle belonging to a volunteer who was using the car to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate civilians from the combat zone in eastern Ukraine.

To carry out these tasks, the agent doused designated ‘targets’ with a highly flammable mixture under the cover of darkness before setting them alight.

He recorded each act of sabotage on his smartphone and sent the photos and video files to his handler in russia.

The SSU detained the arsonist in Odesa, where he had gone into hiding after committing the crimes.

A mobile phone containing evidence of him carrying out orders for the aggressor state was seized during searches.

Based on evidence collected by the Security Service, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2 and 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law, by a group, by prior conspiracy);
  • 28.2 and 194.2 (intentionally destroying or damaging property by arson, committed by a group, by prior conspiracy).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and the Kyiv under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
